The tab may also hold messages from other services like online dating services and media-sharing websites.</p>
<p>If you've signed in to a social media service using your email, that service likely sends notifications to the given email as it's a way to keep you engaged in their platform. As a first step, users who want to stop these notifications should look into the settings page of each service to remove email notifications. This is the preferred way to reduce email clutter and overall traffic on the internet. However, it's not always that easy to do on certain platforms and blocking the email is the only option.</p>
<p>For one reason or another, many users have yet to adjust this setting, which leaves their inbox full of recurring email notifications from these social media services. <p>While Gmail tabs have made it easy for users to easily know which emails are important at a glance, the feature has also made it easier for users to delete unwanted social emails from their inbox. In this guide, we will explain the best way to delete all social emails in your Gmail account. We will also go over ways to selectively delete social emails based on sender and read status.</p>
<h2 id="whydeletesocialemailsingmail">Why delete Social emails in Gmail?</h2>
<p>There are several reasons why you may want to delete the emails that appear on your Social tab.</p>
<p>First, deleting the emails might be necessary if your inbox has reached its storage limit since Google only gives its users 15GB of free storage for their various services. If the user has reached their storage limit, it may prevent them from receiving new emails.</p>

<p>There are a few ways to delete emails in your social tab. In the following section, firstly, we'll discuss how to mass-delete all social emails from your inbox. Next, we'll explain how to delete only the <em>read</em> social emails from your inbox.</p>
<p>In case you would like to delete emails by <em>service</em> (i.e. only delete emails from Facebook), we'll show you the best way to filter and delete emails by their sender.</p>
<p>Lastly, we'll explain how to recover deleted emails in case you need to bring back an email you have deleted within the last 30 days.</p>
<h3 id="deletingallemailsinthesocialtab">Deleting All Emails in the Social Tab</h3>
<p>If you would like to delete <em>all</em> social emails in Gmail, you can follow these steps:</p>

<p>There are a number of reasons why you might want to change your actual email address. Maybe you outgrew the username you chose when you were 12 years old? <p>Regardless of the reason you want to change your address, you wouldn't want to lose out on all of the emails your account will still get. After years of signing up for websites with a certain email address, you're certainly likely to forget to change over the email for a given site, which could cause you to lose access to that site. <p>The average person is staying at their jobs for less time these days, which means you're likely to be changing email addresses more often. <p>For one reason or another, you may want to stop forwarding all of your emails. For example, after a sufficient amount of time maybe you stopped getting important emails at your old address, in which case there's no reason to then be forwarding emails from that address. In order to stop forwarding emails, all you need to do is follow a few steps.</p>
<p>First, make sure you're logged in to the correct account. You'll want to find the account that is actually forwarding the emails.</p>
<p>Like we did before, open your Settings page in Gmail and click on the &quot;Forwarding and POP/IMAP&quot; tab. Once there, under the &quot;Forwarding&quot; section, click on the &quot;Disable forwarding&quot; radio button:</p>

<p>For more specific use-cases, we can set up Gmail to forward only certain emails to an account, as opposed to forwarding <em>all</em> emails. This is useful for a number of reasons, like when you only want to automatically forward emails from certain people. For example, let's say your email account was really only ever used to communicate with a few coworkers on a project, but not really much else. If the project ends and you no longer need the email, you could set up forwarding for just those coworkers' emails. This way you won't also get the spam that inevitably comes into this inbox.</p>
<p>For cases like these, we can use Gmail's filters to set up the forwarding. In this section we'll detail the steps you need to follow to forward just these emails.</p>
<p><strong>Note</strong>: <em>There are a number of ways to create filters in Gmail, and we won't cover all of the ways here. Keep in mind that this is only one way to go about this process.</em></p>
<p>Start by finding an email from someone in which you want their emails to be forwarded. Open the email, click the three vertical dots icon, and find the option that says &quot;Filter messages like this&quot;:</p>

In order to help keep yourself on task, you might not want to actually send a response to every email that needs one, especially those that will take longer to respond to. A better option would be to snooze the important emails to make sure they then resurface later in the day when you have the time and mental capacity to craft an appropriate response.</p>
<p>This is an intriguing feature that allows us to schedule a convenient time to read our important emails, rather than interrupting our current task or having to remember to go back and respond.</p>
<p>In this article, we will learn a bit more about what it means to snooze emails, the benefits of using Gmail's snooze feature, and how to snooze an email on both desktop and mobile clients.</p>
<h2 id="whatissnoozing">What is Snoozing?</h2>
<p>Snooze is a Gmail feature that allows us to temporarily remove an email from our inbox and schedule it to reappear at a later date/time. This is especially useful if we are drowning in emails but need to remember to return to certain important messages later. Let's first take a look at some advantages and then understand how it works.</p>
<h2 id="advantagesofsnoozingemails">Advantages of Snoozing Emails</h2>
<p>It's generally bad for productivity to be constantly distracted by email. There are numerous advantages to snoozing emails in Gmail, a few of which we've laid out here:</p>

<li>Snoozing an email allows us to handle reading or responding to an email at a more convenient time</li>
<li>We can specify the time and date that works better for us to go through the snoozed emails</li>
<li>Snoozing an email makes it reappear in your inbox, as opposed to relying on you to remember to revisit an email you received earlier</li>
<li>Many people (as well as automated emails like newsletters) send email around the same time of day, like in the morning. The snooze feature can be used to help spread out the number of email you have to go through at one time. For example, if you typically receive 30 emails in the morning, you can snooze 15 of them to reappear in the afternoon once you've had time to work through more important tasks.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Note:</strong> Make sure you're only snoozing emails when you are too busy to properly handle them and they require more of your attention. If you snoooze <em>every</em> email, then it defeats the purpose and you'll be in the same predicament when all of the snoozed emails inevitably resurface.</p>

<p>If you're busy and have quite a few emails to go through, it could take a while to individually snooze <em>every</em> important email in your inbox. Luckily Gmail provides a convenient feature that allows you to snooze multiple emails at once.</p>
<p>To snooze multiple emails, check the box on the left side of the emails you want to snooze and then click the snooze button at the top of your inbox, which is highlighted in red, as shown in the image below:</p>

This can be good for signing up for newsletters or user accounts in 3rd party sites. If you find that your email address was leaked or sold to an ad company, you can easily unlink that alias and stop receiving the unwanted email.</p>

<p>Let's say Michael works in your HR department and creates a job posting online looking for new talent. We can also apply this to our Gmail account by deleting unnecessary emails to free up space. An easy way to find these unnecessary emails is to look in the Promotions tab.</p>
<p>In this article, we will learn how to delete all promotional emails in Gmail, both on desktop and mobile. We'll also take a look at what Promotional Emails are and why you should delete them.</p>
<h2 id="whatarepromotionalemails">What are Promotional Emails?</h2>
<p>A promotional email is considered to be marketing or commercial email. It usually includes special offers, newsletters, a list of new services or products, and other &quot;calls to action&quot; emails sent to the audience. The target audience could be anyone the company wants to inform about their new services, products, deals, etc.</p>
<p>To be clear, not all of these emails are necessarily bad. Maybe there are situations in which you actually <em>want</em> to receive these kinds of emails, or at least from specific companies, like your favorite bakery sending out their weekly deal. Luckily in these cases Gmail will allow you to drag the specific email from the &quot;Promotions&quot; tab to the &quot;Primary&quot; tab, indicating to Gmail that you want to see this email. Unfortunately, for most people there are very few promotional emails that they really care to see.</p>
<h3 id="howdoesagmaildetectapromotionalemail">How Does a Gmail Detect a Promotional Email?</h3>
<p>When emails are sent to recipients, Gmail uses an algorithm to determine whether they contain deals, offers, newsletters, a list of products or services, or other promotional messages. 84.5% of scanned emails containing the above list end up in your Gmail account's promotion tab.</p>
<p>It works in a very similar way to a spam filter in which many the algorithms collects many different data points (i.e. number of links, existence of certain keywords, number and type of images, etc) and uses those data points to decide if it's likely that the email is promotional in nature. Like the spam filter, Gmail is always working to improve the algorithm, and marketers are always trying to find ways to avoid getting filtered into the Promotions tab.</p>
<h3 id="whydeletepromotionalemails">Why Delete Promotional Emails?</h3>
<p>One of the main reasons why we may want to delete promotional emails is so that they don't take up space in our Google account. Free Google accounts have a limit of 15 GB, which counts storage between your Gmail account, Google Drive, and Google Photos. This storage can be upgraded to 100 GB for $2/month, but there's not much point in paying for storage if it's just to save marketing emails in your inbox.</p>
<p>Not only do they take up your account's storage, but having too many unwanted emails in your inbox can cause a big clutter problem. Imagine you're trying to search for an email in your inbox about your son's basketball practice, but all of the emails that come up are about deals on basketballs from a sporting goods store. With years of promotional emails collecting in your inbox, scenarios like this are actually pretty common.</p>
<h2 id="deletingallpromotionalemailsondesktop">Deleting All Promotional Emails on Desktop</h2>
<p>You can find that most of the promotional emails are, unsurprisingly, located in the Promotion tab in your Gmail account. Click on the Promotion tab with the price tag icon, as shown in the image below:</p>

<p>Let's start by deleting these promotional emails from your Gmail account. To begin, select all promotional emails by clicking on the checkbox icon in the top-left corner of your inbox, as shown here:</p>

<p>After that, we need to select the <em>remaining</em> promotional emails in your inbox as well. The first checkbox we click only selected the promotional emails you're currently viewing, but Gmail also gives you the option to select <em>all</em> promotional emails. To do this, click the blue text that says &quot;Select all [number] conversations in Promotions&quot;. Once clicked, it should then say &quot;All [number] conversations in Promotions are selected&quot;.</p>

<p>Now, to actually delete these, click on the bin icon that appears after we have selected all of the emails we want to delete:</p>

<p>As of now, Google hasn't made it possible to select multiple emails at once on mobile. Rather, simply hold down each promotional email to mark the ones you want to delete, then click the bin icon at the top.</p>
<p>On mobile, however, another technique can be used to select all Promotional emails at once. Access the web version of Gmail on your mobile device (as opposed to via the app). Doing this on desktop is definitely easier, but if you don't have any other choice, then follow these instructions for mobile.</p>
<p>First ensure that you are logged in, and and after doing so you'll be redirected to another page. Simply click the &quot;Use Web Version&quot; button, which is shown here:</p>
