WordPress is one of the world’s most used sites for making blogs and websites. But spammers, specifically comment spammers, are a constant problem for WordPress. The problem can become so bad that it ends up flooding your Gmail inbox because the comment spammers continue to find ways around the spam blocking plugins.
It’s gotten to the point where registration spammers, comment spammers, and email harvesters have caused multiple plug-ins to be made to specifically try to stop it. Unfortunately, the problem continues. So, your Gmail account just keeps on taking the hits and users are none too happy.
The best option would be to unsubscribe from these kinds of emails if possible, but if for some reason you're not able to, here is another way you can block spam from Wordpress:
- Install Block Sender for Gmail by clicking the “Install” button found in the upper right-hand corner of this site. The installation won’t take long. Open Gmail when it is done.
- After signing up for a Block Sender account and linking your Gmail account to Block Sender, open the unwanted email from Wordpress, and click the "Block" button on the messages toolbar.
- Select the "Emails from this sender" option.
And since Wordpress does send legitimate emails, you may want to try a different approach and instead block just the comment emails using phrase blocking or subject blocking. This would then allow you to receive their legitimate emails as well.
